The Great Book Swap –
Supporting Indigenous Literacy

Did you know that only 25% of Indigenous students in very remote areas are at the minimum reading standard, compared to 90% of non-Indigenous students? The Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s goal is to change these stats, but they need your help.

This year the Library is participating in The Great Book Swap to support Indigenous Literacy Day on September 6, 2017.

From Monday September 4 a book swap table will be set up near the front desk of the library. Bring in your own book and swap it for another, for a gold coin donation.

The Library is aiming to raise $500 for the Indigenous Literacy Fund, which goes to support literacy programs in remote communities across Australia. If you don’t have any books to swap but would like to make a donation, do so via our fundraising page. Stay updated on our fundraising target via social media.

Take a selfie of you and your swapped book in the Library and use the hashtag #mqbookswap for a chance to win a suitably bookish prize!

Take this opportunity to refresh your mind and contribute to a great cause – books can make a difference!
