International Open Access Week 2017 kicks off next Monday 23rd October. Macquarie University Library has a number of events planned to celebrate and put a spotlight on the advantages of Open Access and Open Scholarship.
Presented by Dr Shawn Ross and Susan Shrubb, Software is not just for Scientists is a series of lightning talks featuring a number of MQ researchers and staff on how they incorporate software tools into their work. There will be two sessions running on Tuesday 24th (11am) and Wednesday 25th October (1pm) on Level 4 of the Library.
Tuesday’s series of talks will feature machine learning with Kathryn Elliot, Trello with Sami Hossain, LaTeX with Tunde Szalay, Pedastal with Michael Rampe, data reuse with Brian Ballsun-Stanton and and FAIMS and Alveo with Shawn Ross and Steve Cassidy.
Wednesday’s talks include digital tools for research communication with Lilia Mantai, Padlet with Bill Ashraf, Text mining and python with Mauricio Marrone, GitHub and ConTeXt with Petra Janouchova and Overleaf with Fiona Jones and Abbie Baker.
On Thursday 26th there will be a Virtual Reality Showcase in the Library’s brand new TechSpace on Level 2 where you can try out our VR headset. We’ll take you on a journey to explore the human body, or experience Star Wars from a very different perspective.
We will also have an Open Access stall outside of the library during the week (Tuesday through Thursday) where you can get more information on Open Access, Copyright, Creative Commons and Open Educational Resources.
