Getting social in your classroom….11 November Seminar

Professor Catharine Lumby and Dr Nicole Anderson will share their key findings and recommendations following their research into integrating social media into learning and teaching practice at Macquarie at a seminar on Tuesday 11 November.

“As part of our research, we invited all full time, part time and casual academics to take part in a survey,” said Professor Lumby. “One of the key questions asked was if there were any concerns about how students use social media in class or in relation to learning and teaching, from which we received some very insightful data.Professor Lumby says social media presents many opportunities and some challenges.

“It was exciting to learn from students and academics across our university about how social media can be used to enhance learning and teaching, and to get a better understanding of what support lecturers need to use it well,” she adds.

“Given the centrality of social media in the lives of many of our students, this is a timely project. This seminar will provide an excellent opportunity to explore the opportunities and challenges arising,” said Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) Professor Sherman Young.
