HDR Supervision and Mental Health First Aid

In 2016 the HDR Supervision Enhancement Program will offer HDR Supervisors with an opportunity to develop skills that focus on the well-being and mental health of HDR candidates.

One hour face-to-face workshops

In 2016 (4 x one hour) workshops will be offered, facilitated by Steve Bailey. Steve is well know for his contribution to Campus Wellbeing & Support Services and is also an accredited trainer with the internationally acclaimed organisation Mental Health First Aid. HDR Supervisors who participate in one of the four workshops will have met the requirements for the annual supervision enhancement update. There are workshops on 7th April, 16th June, 16th August, and 14th October. If every workshop is filled to capacity by HDR Supervisors, we will have begun a conversation with 120 academics in 2016!

Accredited Training

In addition, the HDRO will sponsor Faculty staff nominated by each Associate Dean/HDR to attend the Blended MHFA course for white-collar workplaces. In total we hope that 35 nominated staff from across the university will attend accredited training in 2016 as a pilot for future years. The Dean of HDR, Professor Nick Mansfield, sees the strategy as so important, he has nominated to attend the blended 10 hour accredited MHFA course for 2016.
