Dharshi Fernando

First iTeach mission accomplished

Dharshi Fernando joined the LTC Learning Systems and Services team as a Software Engineer in March to continue to develop the iTeach system and keep it running along smoothly.

Dharshi breathes a big sigh of relief this week after working hard behind the iTeach scenes to implement the latest release. iTeach is updated regularly to make any changes, improvements or to fix any technical bugs, and much of the time you won’t even notice. A change you will see from this release is the new MQ branding so our unit guides all display the new logo.

We asked Dharshi to answer a few questions and here are some words from the iTeach controller herself!

What language is that you speak?
I am a software developer and my language specialty is Ruby on Rails (used to program web applications such as iTeach). I used to be a Java developer but have now switched over. It took around 6 months to learn the language initially but there are regular updates so you have to keep learning!

Enough about work, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love gardening, but I don’t have a large garden myself so I volunteer for the Lane Cove Community Centre. We help elderly people and others who can’t manage to work on their gardens. Surprisingly, there are many IT people in the gardening scene. I guess it makes a nice change to get outdoors away from the computer screen!

What is your favourite thing to cook?
I’m not really a huge fan of cooking, but I love to  eat! My favourite food if I don’t have to cook it is chocolate cake.
