Everything you wanted to know about learning analytics but were too afraid to ask

Have you heard learning analytics mentioned recently? Has it appeared in articles you’ve read, conversations you’ve overheard or are you just curious?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions why not come to the workshop Using the Moodle Engagement Analytics Plugin (MEAP) to Identify students at risk on 15 September  (3:45-4:45) PM at Macquarie University North Ryde campus in E4B102 . It will be run during Learning and Teaching week.

The workshop aims to give you an introduction to learning analytics. It will be a hands-on experience where you will see how you could use a learning analytics tool to identify students who may be at risk of not completing your unit and what you might choose to do about it.

In the workshop you will use one of your iLearn units to explore the affordances of learning analytics. Specifically you will use an iLearn plugin that Macquarie is trialing to identify students that you determine are at risk of not completing your unit. Also to provide some context around using this plugin, we will explore why teachers and institutions are starting to use learning analytics and discuss ethical issues around, and implications of, using learning analytics.

Places in the workshop are limited so if you are interested please register.

We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible for this journey into learning analytics.

  1. You actually make it seem really easy along with your presentation but I find
this matter to be really one thing which
I feel I’d never understand. It sort of feels too complicated and extremely vast for me.
I am taking a look ahead in your subsequent post, I’ll
try to get the grasp of it!

    1. Hi thanks for your comment.
If you can attend Macquarie next week I would recommend that you come along to the workshop.
If you are like me, I often find that I understand something better if I can actually do something rather than to talk about it. That’s what the workshop is designed for: to give an opportunity to practically experience learning analytics so you can understand it better.
