Call For Proposals and Papers for the ACTS Conference

Are you or your colleagues making a difference at a local or global level towards Sustainability in Higher Education? The call for proposals and papers for the Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) conference will close on 15 June, 2017.

Some of you know me as the Director of Sustainability here at Macquarie – for those who don’t, Hi! What most of you don’t know about me is I do a lot of pro-bono work on the Board of a non-profit called Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability or ACTS – awesome acronym for an organisation that’s aiming to make the world a better place through supporting sustainability practitioners and educators, right!

Every year ACTS runs an amazing conference and awards program, attended by educational institutions, government, and business and industry representatives from around the globe. The conference brings together passionate change makers and educators who research, develop and implement innovative and creative solutions to real world challenges. This year the conference is being held at RMIT in Melbourne, with a theme that screams attention: Think BIG for Global Goals.

Lucky for us, the call for papers and early bird registrations are now open. I encourage anyone who is doing research and/or teaching in any aspect of social, economic and/or environmental wellbeing, or wanting to learn more in this space, to check out all that the conference can offer. As biased as this will sound, it truly is one of the best conferences I attend every year, primarily because of the collegiality, enthusiasm, and knowledge sharing that permeates the atmosphere.

But, even if the conference itself doesn’t sound like something you would do, the Green Gown Awards Australasia nominations are also open. The GGAA’s are the most prestigious sustainability focused awards in the sector. Categories are varied and cover:

  • Built Environment
  • Carbon Reduction
  • Community
  • Continuous Improvement: Institutional Change
  • Creating Impact
  • Facilities & Services
  • Learning, Teaching & Skills
  • Research & Development
  • Student Engagement

There are also Individual Awards up for grabs in the categories of:

  • Leadership Award
  • ACTS Award of Excellence – Staff
  • ACTS Award of Excellence – Student

And the awesome-ness of the Awards doesn’t stop there. If you enter and win either the Community, Continuous Improvement, or Student Engagement category, you go through to the International Green Gown Awards against institutions from all around the world.

So what are you waiting for! Check out the information about the call for papers and early bird registration here and the Green Gown Awards Australasia here.
